A Message from DIANA TJADEN, Developer and Director of the Full Circle Breast Cancer Recovery Program:
Dealing with breast cancer can be an overwhelming and emotional experience, both mentally and physically. Traditional treatment for breast cancer included surgery, including mastectomy; chemotherapy; and radiation. Today, in addition to those modalities, the importance of exercises to restore flexibility, range of motion, and strength receives much more emphasis than it did in the past. With proper guidance and education, patients are able to combat these breast cancer side effects and return to their prior levels of function.
As the Developer and Director of the Full Circle Breast Cancer Recovery Program, I know that physical therapy intervention can help alleviate breast cancer pain and minimize scar tissue formation, loss of range of motion, and loss of strength. Typically, addressing these problems can help to reduce limitations in activity and function. As a physical therapist, I have been taught the medical aspects of cancer pathology as well as surgical and treatment management. My staff and I believe in the importance of taking a full body approach. Our strong manual therapy background enables us to successfully evaluate and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions, which often contribute to loss of function in women with breast cancer. This philosophy focuses on identifying the causes of the muscular imbalances which commonly develop after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy treatment. Hands-on treatment, individualized programs, and patient education are the key components to achieving a positive outcome..
Thank you for visiting the Full Circle website. I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
